Icy Rainbows

Well it is supposed to be spring but you wouldn't have known that yesterday with the snow falling from the sky covering the icy grass. I think is ice on trees and grass is very beautiful how the sunlight captures it and makes little prism rainbows but it can also be very deadly with it knocking down powerlines, causing wrecks etc. Oh well it wouldn't have been right if it had been a beautiful sunny day yesterday with the Jayhawks losing the night before.

Last week Carl received his bobcat badge for cub scouts and we turned in his camp form for the summer. Ah yes summer the time to send your kids off to many camps. Carl's first camp is the cub scout camp and it is at the Douglas fairgrounds its only a day camp that lasts for a week. Morning to Afternoon so that should give me a nice break to just hang with Calvin while he is at that. We are also signing him up for softball again this time slow pitch by the coach (he was worried he might get hit by the ball but we assured him the coach probably doesn't want to hurt his own players, let alone 7 year old boys.)

On Thursday Carl started his first piano lessons a student from Lucas's work came out to the house and will come each Thursday which I think is great because it gets exhausting driving into town all the time and he gets lessons 1 on 1 instead of waiting around while 10 other kids are playing. I am having him practice for 20 minutes a day and while it gets monotonous hearing the same notes played over and over with the same beat I know he is learning plus he is doing his left hand which seems to be trickier then just the right hand. So I am proud of him and I think this will be really good for him. We are making him practice his multiplication right now Lucas first made up a 10 x 10 table for him to fill out and today I had him fill out a 12 x 12 table which I'm happy to say he got 100% he wants to go onto division but we still need more practice with the multiplying before we can go on.
We are signing Calvin up for a camp too at his preschool it lasts a week and is in the morning it sounds like a lot of fun and I think it will help him get to know his classmates better since right now he is pretty shy and enjoys playing by himself more but he is getting better. Then later in July the VBS starts which is the church were Calvin goes to preschool and this year I will sign both Carl and Calvin up to go since it only cost about $5 per child and it lasts a week either mornings or afternoons well worth it giving him a much needed break and time to rest when I'm big and pregnant by then and just want to take naps.
I think I have convinced Lucas of what type of swing I want to get the new baby when it comes of course we don't plan getting it until august or September so we can save up more amazon points with our handy dandy amazon credit card right now we already have 50 points of credit.

So here is the swing I want:

Yes it is expensive but if you go onto the gracobaby.com website and check out the demo it is awesome and I'm sorry but it probably won't be a swing I would ever lend out for someone to borrow or even give away expect to my own children. Of course by then they will have an even better swing for babies. It doesn't swing like a normal swing either from front to back or from side to side but it sways like when you are holding your baby in your arms and swaying them it also plays soothing sounds or music and you can hook up your ipod to put your own music hopefully soothing baby music or classical music. I don't have a graco carseat but if you do you can take the graco infant carseat and put it on instead since the rocker can be removed handy if your just getting home and baby is asleep in carseat.
We also need a highchair but obviously that can wait till after baby is born since babies don't eat solid/mushy baby food till about 4-6 months.
We are keeping this baby a surprise because we found out with both Carl and Calvin so we already have a ton of baby clothes yes they are boys but in the first few weeks they are normally in sleepers and onesies anyway. Baby won't care and refuse to wear clothes because of the color it is, however if we do have a girl I do plan on getting a lot of pink cute clothes for her I might even pick up one cute little girl outfit for the hospital picture just in case we do have a girl.
Obviously that is a long way off but it keeps my mind of my horrible headaches.
I got really bad headaches with Carl and now they are back they can range from small little hammers just being annoying to big giant anvils hitting my head causing me to only want to close my eyes oh and I can only take regular strength Tylenol of course but I will ask on Wednesday at my next appointment if there is anything else I can take when they become migraines.
It basically feels like I have a constant hangover which obviously I don't have right now since drinking is a no no right now.
Here is a lovely poem about the month of September I found:
"The breezes taste Of apple peel.
The air is full Of smells to feel-Ripe fruit,
old footballs,Burning brush,
New books, erasers,Chalk, and such.
The bee, his hive, Well-honeyed hum,
And Mother cuts Chrysanthemums.
Like plates washed clean With suds, the days Are polished with A morning haze."

The letter of the day is.........

This week so far has been pretty uneventful. Carl went back to school so it is just Calvin and I at home expect Tuesday mornings when he has preschool.
This morning we woke up and I made Calvin a bowl of Life cereal I give him a choice of that or lucky charms. I made myself a bowl of cinnamon spice oatmeal which I then doctor with butter, sugar, more cinnamon and a little bit of heavy cream and I also make myself a smoothie, I picked up another package from target yesterday. It consists of pineapple, peaches, and mangoes, I prefer it so far to the one with rasberries which leaves little tiny seeds in your teeth and then you have the hard decision of chewing them or spitting them out which you can't really spit out seeds when your sitting a computer I think it would be frowned upon. I went to pick up my prenatal vitamin prescription from target yesterday but they have to order them so they won't be in till today. The pharmacist told me how much they would be, appearntly some insurrance companies don't cover prenatal vitamins, how insane is that? I mean wouldn't it be better to pay a little bit of money now to make sure the baby is getting its proper nutrients and has a chance of being healthy then having to pay money later if God forbid there are complications with the baby? I think Kansas is just backasswards when it comes to some of this stuff. For example I found out in Minnesota if you become pregnant you automatically get insurrance in KS if you are pregnant before you have insurrance you are pretty much screwed because it is a pre-existing condition. Ok my tangent is over for now.

Calvin and I worked on learning some new letters today we learned the letter Y as in Yellow, Yak, Yolk, Yolanda, Yorgeson. We also reviewed the other letters he has learned so far I'm trying to teach him how to recongize letters when they are written somewhere. We are not learning the letters in order because I want him to know them outside of the alphabet song. We also played GI Joe which consisted of him taking his GI joe helicopter that was carrying storm troopers and launching missles at my guy, much different from the barbies and my little ponies I played with when I was a kid but at least he has good imagniation.

I look forward to the day when I can really cook again, not just throw something in the oven or on the stove but right now it makes me sick, the other night I tried making Carl a sandwich and had to run to the bathroom cause I couldn't stand the smell then I got to listen to Carl and Calvin argue about whether we were going to have a girl or a boy. Oh what joy!!

Fact about September:

According to the Georgian calendar, September is the ninth month. But, on the Roman calendar, it was the seventh month. September has had 29 days, and 31 days; but, since the time of the emperor Augustus, it has had only 30 days.

KU advances to the sweet sixteen

This weekend was pretty quiet no suprises parties to go to just basketball games to watch and enjoy. Yesterday was a pretty nice day we went to spangles for lunch and while the food was pretty good we probably won't go back anytime soon. They messed up Lucas's order which I told him to take up and say something but he is too nice I did tell him that next time that happens he really needs to say something because he didn't get what he paid for. Also the boy's toys were cookies which I went up and asked about and they replied didn't they get their cookies which I said yes but toys aren't cookies. Appearntly they ran out of toys. Anyway it was an experience and I wanted to try it since we had never been there before. They had a 50's/60's retro theme inside. Then we went to Target and we finally bought a comforter for our bed, we had bought new bed sheets a couple of weeks ago and we actually found a nice brown comforter that has stripes like our sheets our sheets are more of a beige/champagne color I guess and it matches nicely I just got tired of the duvet being shifty all the time.

Today was pretty quiet expect for oh yeah KU won!!! That was really nice of them to win and they were pretty much ahead the whole game expect for the 10 seconds in the begining when Dayton lead by 2. Which was nice I am sure the next game will be a teeth clencher, hold your breath, sitting on the edge of our seats, heart attack waiting to happen game but this was a nice relaxing game, so thanks Hawks for that.
The MU game was pretty exciting too, I didn't pick them to win but Carl did so I'm happy for him he actually has them going to the final four which I'm not sure if they will make it that far but at least he got this win. While the games were being played Lucas and I worked on one of those 1000 piece puzzles which I think is a perfect thing to do on a sunday afternoon while your watching basketball.
We ended the day with the amazing race which was late because of the basketball games luckily I had it record cold case which comes on after the race so we didn't miss it. This week they were in India and it was a pretty good show but I won't say anything else in case anybody hasn't seen the show and doesn't know the end result.

Well I have had my bowl of cookie dough ice cream and I am ready to brush my teeth and go to bed or at least get in bed and watch Celebrity Apprentice.
Oh and appearntly the baby doesn't like turkey pot pies.

I will end on this:
Why do we call it sweet sixteen? We use the phrase in basketball and when girls turn sixteen there is always emphasis to throw a great sweet sixteen party. I wonder where the phrase came from or dates back too.

Be de ya dancing in september

I am starting a blog for our new baby that is due in September.

We finally told my family and Lucas's family the wonderful news. Everyone has congratulated us so far and it is nice to be able to talk about it.

I have had 2 appointments so far and I am 12 weeks along.

Things that make me nauseous so far:

  1. spaghetti with marinara sauce (acidic)

  2. The thought of fruit, though I do try have smoothies, I like the ones from target but I suggest ones that don't have little tiny seeds because they are annoying.

  3. Too much red meat.

Things that I like so far:

  1. Fried chicken tenders

  2. onion rings

  3. chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream

  4. water with ice and lemon juice (not a big water drinker so this is how I prefer it so I will actually drink it.

  5. chocolate milk

  6. Lipton pasta sides (white sauces)

  7. chunky chicken noodle soup from Campbell's I prefer this to Progesso it taste more homemade and I like the saltiness/fatness from it.

  8. Preggie pops (looks like small candy helps with the nausea

So far that is it but I am going to end with lyrics to a song by Earth Wind and Fire:

Do you remember the 21st night of September?

Love was changing the minds of pretenders

While chasing the clouds away

Our hearts were ringing

In the key that our souls were singing.

As we danced in the night,

Remember how the stars stole the night away

Ba de ya - say do you remember

Ba de ya - dancing in September

Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day

My thoughts are with you

Holding hands with your heart to see you

Only blue talk and love,

Remember how we knew love was here to stay

Now December found the love that we shared in September.

Only blue talk and love,

Remember the true love we share today

Ba de ya - say do you remember

Ba de ya - dancing in September

Ba de ya - never was a cloudy day

Ba de ya - say do you remember

Ba de ya - dancing in September

Ba de ya - golden dreams were shiny days
